HELLO & WELCOME

My name is Sabina Townshend. I am an artist, illustrator and art teacher, living and working a few miles outside of Brighton in Sussex, UK. This website is my portfolio site and showcases some of my best work and my art teaching.

I’ve been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. I was a child in the 1970’s and at that time there was a kiln at the school that I went to. My Mum often tells me that my teacher in Year 6 showed her my creations and said ‘there’s definitely something there!’.

I studied Textile Design at University before becoming secondary school art teacher. I’ve taught all ages and all syllabuses, BTEC’s, GCSEs and A Levels and I’ve taught most disciplines - Art, Graphics, Textiles, 3D, printmaking, digital - even website design and coding using HTML - you name it.

When my boys were born I was reunited with my love of picture books and I’ve have been writing, drawing and educating myself in this field ever since.  I write stories and develop them into picture book ideas. I design and draw characters and the worlds that they inhabit. Humour is hugely important in my work. I love to make myself and others laugh. You can see more of this work on my illustration pages.

I also love to paint. At the moment my focus is on the abstract. I love to play with line, colour and mark making.  You can see more of this work on the paintings page.

If you’d like to buy anything, please have a look at my shop page and get in touch.

If you are interested in my illustration work for a possible project, feel free to reach out.

If you’re interested in having me conduct an art session or if there’s something specific you want to learn, don’t hesitate to contact me.

Thanks for taking a look at my work!

Sabina
